Herring tells our story – come and taste Bohuslän

House of Herrings

A shop with the heart and soul of herring

In the middle of Klädesholmen, in the premises of the old grocery store, you will find House of Herrings – a shop filled with herring, tradition and taste experiences. Here we connect the island’s proud herring history with the stories of the future, and let both locals and visitors experience a living part of Bohuslän’s cultural heritage.

The shop is run by Salt & Sill but stands as its own destination, just 300 meters away from our restaurant and floating hotel. Through House of Herrings, we want to preserve and share the story of herring – the fish that built Klädesholmen, shaped life on the West Coast and became a natural part of our celebrations.

Opening hours House of Herrings
🐟 Week 34 and onward
Open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In addition to regular opening hours, House of Herrings is also open for bus groups, group bookings and other special events by appointment.

Our herring – from tradition to Herring of the Year 2026

Here you will find the entire range from Klädesholmen Seafood – from classic pickles to exciting new products. We have a special focus on the Herring of the Year 2026, which is produced every year in close collaboration between Salt & Sill and Klädesholmen Seafood. A meeting between tradition, craftsmanship and innovation – always with the sea as inspiration.

Accessories, books & local flavors

Herring is best in good company. That’s why we stock the shop with everything you could possibly need – from ingredients for pickling your own herring to classic accompaniments like cheese, potatoes, eggs and onions. There are also books about herring and the sea, local treats like honey and jams, and small souvenirs to remind you of your visit to Klädesholmen.

Neighbors with the Herring Museum “Sillebua”

Right next door you’ll find the Sillebua Herring Museum, where you can immerse yourself in the history of herring and the people who have lived with it over the centuries. A visit here is a great complement to the House of Herring and provides a holistic experience of the island’s cultural heritage.
