Everyone can contribute

Salt & Sill’s sustainability efforts

Our floating hotel is not only based on the sea. We also use the ocean’s underwater currents as the basis for the energy our hotel needs. Our presence on Klädesholmen is crucial to us, just as we aspire to have significance for Klädesholmen. Therefore we strive to use local ingredients as much as possible. We buy vegetables from Mölnebo farms and our eggs from Mällby Lantgård, locally produced at Tjörn. We ferment our vegetables so that we can use them for longer periods of the season.

Fair-trade labeled and made from organic materials

Our employees’ shirts and sweaters are fair trade labeled and made from organic materials, and the napkins are eco-friendly. We work with Rikstvätt, which means we have Swan labeled textiles whose deliveries also are fossil free. Our hotel rooms are decorated with eco-friendly furnishings, often made from recycled boat wood. Our bedding is organic because we want our guests to be able to sleep with a clear conscience.

Participatory full time employments

We employ our staff on full time contracts except in exceptional cases. We adapt our work processes to suit our employees and involve them in decisions to make our workplace as attractive as possible for our employees. As a guest at Salt & Sill, you should be able to give yourself an experience that feels right for you. We help you make the right decisions and guidings. Like public transportation to, as well as from, our accommodation and facilities will have the smallest possible carbon footprint. But with an imprint on the memory that lasts.

The sea’s most climate smart fish

Our signature dish, the herring, is one of the most climate friendly fish in the sea. All fish served by us is always certified, and we are first hand receivers of all fish that we serve. All lobsters we serve come from local fishermen of Klädesholmen and many of the seafood and fish we serve are caught in the sea outside our hotel and restaurant. When we built our hotel, we dredged and dumped the dredged material outside the hotel which has resulted in a richer marine life. It has also created a lot of currents which the fish like to swim in.
